Chief of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services

Main responsibilities include:

v

Manages and directs the affairs of the BVI National Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services

v

Prepares the budget for the BVI National Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services

v

Leads on the development and implementation of the National Drug Policy, National Drug Formulary, BVU Pharmacy/Drug Act and Traditional Medicine

v

Develops and maintains drug registration process and drug registry.

v

Prepares and submits annual estimates for importation of narcotic and psychotropic substances for the use within the BVI and monitors the use of narcotic and psychotropic substances by the public and private health institutions.

v

Liaises with the police and customs department in reference to the importation, diversion and or seizure of narcotic and psychotropic substances and counterfeit pharmaceuticals.

v

Maintains a register of pharmacies, hospital, clinics distributors, drug stores, supermarkets and other stares that import, store, dispense and sell prescriptions and or over the counter medications (OTCs)

v

Represents the BVI at OECS/PPS TAC and Formulary Committee annual meetings.

v

Prepares and submits annual report of activities of BVI Regulatory and Pharmacy Services.

v

Develops and enforces policy and procedures in reference to the safe disposal of expired/unwanted pharmaceuticals.

Requirements:

v

Masters in Pharmaceutical Service and Medicines Control or Pharmacy Management with at least five (5) years experience

v

BSC in Pharmacy with ten (10) years experience in pharmaceutical management/pharmacy practice

v

Training in management would be an asset

v

Excellent knowledge of BVI Medical and other related legislations

v

Good organisational and analytical skills; good interpersonal skills

v

Good knowledge of rules of evidence, court proceedings and legal rights of citizens

v

Excellent pharmacy knowledge and skills; excellent negotiating skills

Salary:

v

Entry level $55,772 – $62,688 annually, Grade 16 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

v

Benefits (if officer recruited from outside the Territory):

Travel for self and up to four dependents below 19 years of age

Gratuity at 20% of salary (on successful completion of contract)

Housing allowance, and telephone and travelling allowances upon acquisition of a telephone and a car

Appointment:

v

Subject to medical fitness; One-year probationary period

v

Permanent and pensionable establishment
