The VI SBDC Agribusiness Analyst should be a team player and can assist the State Director and Center Director’s to expand services under the Small Business Jobs Act; offering counseling and training territory-wide to agriculture related businesses in areas such as: new market evaluation, distributorship, research of new products and competition, marketing and strategic plans and business plans preparation. The candidate will also work with other established agribusiness SBDC’s to enhance the services and documentation required for assisting VI SBDC clients in this particular field; enhance web resources related sites for VI SBDC website; prepare a FAQ fact sheet for Agribusiness; collaborate with other University of the Virgin Islands resources which provide assistance in agribusiness to increase small business ownership; serve as a liaison between business, government and private sector to bring together the most applicable information for new and existing farmers and streamlining the process of getting it to VI SBDC clients; streamline access to services and information that will assist small and mid-size agribusiness growth; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities will include
• Provide technical advice to farmers covering agronomy, livestock husbandry, business planning etc.
• Submit reports on a regular and punctual basis to reflect the activities of the division.
• Monitor activities of farmers and backyard gardeners, keeping updated with trends within the farming sector.
• Collect information patterns of agricultural production.
• Liaise with database officer on storage, dissemination and utilization of information.
• Disseminate information relating to choice of crops and markets to farmers and to promote good agricultural practices.
• Design and implement farm demonstrations.
• Research and identify appropriate technology and facilitate their transfer to end users.
• Assess the training needs of farmer’s, designing and co-ordinating and delivery of programmes, with appropriate involvement
• Facilitate land distribution to farmers, and act as intermediary between land owners and farmers
• Identify, develop and implement projects utilizing first hand knowledge of farmers, (constraints and opportunities) in conjunction with Agricultural Development Officers.
• Maintain ownership of projects initiated and contribute as appropriate, e.g. Greenhouses.
