The Senior Legal Officer is the primary legal advisor to the College and handles all legal matters affecting the institution.

The Senior Legal Officer represents the institution, provides advice to reduce risk from legal action and is ultimately responsible for supporting the business of the College by providing analysis and legal opinions on matters impacting the fulfillment of the College’s mission.

The successful candidate will:
Information and Advice
• Advise the President, faculty and staff on legal matters arising out of the conduct of their professional duties
• Provide advice and information to college employees on college policies and procedures and legal matters that arise out of the employee’s conduct of his/her duties.
• Advise on student conduct, activities and other matters including immigration, insurance and privacy issues, ensuring close collaboration with relevant faculty and administrative staff in the process
• Provide advice on issues arising from actual or anticipated lawsuits

The main responsibility of the Legal Officer will be to providing legal services in support of all the activities of the project. In addition, he/she will provide legal guidance/support to the National Standard Bodies (NSBs) of Member States, contributing to the project objective.

Specific Functions
The Legal Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer of the CROSQ Secretariat and will be specifically responsible for:

(a) Drafting harmonized legislation for the CARIFORUM Member States in the areas of standardization, metrology, accreditation, testing and certification;

(b) Assisting with the development of a model policy for standards development for the CARIFORUM Members States for adoption by Member States;

(c) Providing legal advice and services to CROSQ and Member States on the implementation of the Caribbean Cooperation for Accreditation (CCA) System;

(d) Advising on the interpretation and application of legislation of relevance to the project;

(e) Conducting legal research relevant to the project as delegated by the CEO of CROSQ;
